Sweet, sassy and satisfying dance music is on tap Friday, April 18 at the Port Townsend Elks with a visit from Tacoma's Maia Santell & House Blend. The dance, sponsored by Olympic Peninsula Dance, welcomes both singles and couples.

Maia SantellOn vocals, Santell's powerful voice -- compared to Bonnie Raitt -- is bold, playful and full of confidence. She's known as "an entertainer's entertainer," delivering songs with a style that's dynamic and full of musical joy.

Backing up Santell, House Blend's guitar, saxophone, bass and drums represent a who's who of Northwest jazz and blues royalty. These seasoned musicians appeal to all age audiences, and dancers are especially enthused by their mix of styles. For more than two decades Santell and House Blend have been favorites around the Pacific Northwest at nightclubs, casinos, festivals, dances, cruises, and special events.

The group performs a mix of jazz, blues, swing, Latin, rhythm and blues, big band hits and contemporary favorites, with a repertoire featuring the best in popular dance music from the 1940's through the 1990's. Maia Santell and House Blend's playlist reflects songs made famous by such artists as Duke Ellington, Etta James, B.B. King, Billie Holiday, Brooks and Dunn, Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Santana, Linda Ronstadt, Billie Holiday, Eric Clapton, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Patsy Cline, Wilson Pickett, Fats Domino and Peggy Lee, to name a few. For more information, sound bites and videos, see: www.MaiaSantell.com.

There will be a free (with admission) Foxtrot workshop with Carol Hathaway at 7:00 pm.  Experienced dancers are encouraged to come help beginners. No partner or registration is necessary.

This is a smoke-free dance open to all ages.

Admission: Adults $15; disabled or student with school ID $10; age 12 and under $7.
